Where the heck have I been?!

Well hello there…

Long time no see! Or rather, long time no post.

unnamed[1]

It’s no mystery that I have been absent for a large majority of 2014. No worries however, I can promise you I have not dropped off the face of the planet. I’ve simply been caught up in the antics of life and got lost for a little while. Although 2014 certainly came with a slew of challenges, I can happily say I have both learned a great deal and grown as a person, which are perhaps the greatest rewards of all.

Since I’ve been gone for so many months… Allow me to catch you up on what I’ve been doing.

2014 RECAP!

First off, I’ve been up in the gym just workin on my fitness.

Fat to Fit Faces

Please excuse the bad black eyed peas reference… But seriously, over the past year I made fitness a new priority in my life. It’s taken roughly two years in total, however I can proudly say I have managed to lose and keep off almost 50 pounds. It certainly hasn’t been easy but having my confidence back has made it all worth while. Believe me, there’s nothing quite as satisfying as having the dress you wore to senior prom be TOO BIG!

Fat to Fit Bodies

After four long years of countless all-nighters, hours upon hours of studying, and endless cups of coffee, I can finally say I have graduated college with a bachelors degree in psychology. Sometimes I have to pinch myself because it just doesn’t seem real, however my college years truly did fly by. Although I am looking to pursue graduate work in the near future, it’s been could I say somewhat fun navigating this giant world as a newly independent adult.

Dr. Seuss once said when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall in mutual weirdness and call it love. 2014 has certainly brought me many things, but I never expected that love would be one of them.

This year I was blessed to find an amazing man who is my biggest supporter as well as my best friend.

He always knows just how to make me smile and I know he has my back no matter what.

We compliment each other so well, sometimes it’s almost scary.

The world can be a pretty scary place at times, but with Gejoe I never feel like I have to face it alone.

Ringing in the new year with my best friend and better half. I love you doofus ❤️󾌩󾔗

I knew it was meant to be the night we stayed up till 3AM eating chicken nuggets in our underwear.

I’m excited to begin regular blog posts once again in this new year.

I can’t begin to explain my gratitude for your undying support and loyalty even through these months I have been away.

Keep an eye out for new upcoming candle reviews!

Until then I hope your new year is of to a wonderful start!

Bath and Body Works Candle Review: Tiki Beach

Hello Everyone!

20140227_133432[1]

Today I’ll be reviewing the 14.5 oz candle in Tiki Beach.

The scent description of this candle reads:

A scent as warm as the sun! A luxurious blend of toasted coconut, vanilla musk
and orchids brings the glamour of a resort-stay to you

DSC01723

First Thoughts: This candle is very beachy, tropical, and warm. It makes me think of sipping a pina colada by the shore line during the summer. I love that you can really pick up on the toasted coconut and that they didn’t just go with a fresh coconut instead. This coconut note is supported by a nice warm vanilla that really makes this scent unique. I’m loving it so far!

Packaging: I LOVE what they’ve done with the packaging for this line! The text is nice and bold so you can actually read it and the background is beautifully tropical. The off-white color of the wax really helps to pull the label together.

Wicks: The wicks on this candle are average medium sized wicks, however they’re very short and somewhat stumpy.

20140227_133408[1]

Now let’s get into this candle’s performance!

Burn/Performance: B

Scent Accuracy: A

Scent Throw: B

Season of Usage: Spring and Summer

Guest Friendly: Yes

Worth Purchasing: Yes

When I first lit this candle, I honestly didn’t think it would survive. At first the wicks could barely stay lit, but by the second burn this candle turned around and corrected itself. As you can see the wax pool is SUPER deep and performing beautifully now!

The throw on this candle is just average. It easily fills a medium sized room, but I don’t think it could hold its own in a large room. The scent of this candle is a warm toasted coconut scent mixed with vanilla. It really has a tropical feel and I will probably burn this candle more in the summer.

I would definitely recommend this candle if you can find it in your local store 🙂

Bath and Body Works Candle Haul: Hawaii Collection + GIVEAWAY!

Hello Everyone!

I recently placed an order with Bath and Body Works because I really wanted to try their new Hawaii themed candles.

I’m not usually a huge fan of tropical themed candles, so I decided to stick with the minis and see which ones were the best.

20140304_111053[1]

I ordered 7 out of the 8 mini candles that are available online. The only one I skipped was Black Sands because the description sounded like a cologne type scent, which I’m not a fan of.

I think my favorite thing about this collection would have to be the packaging. The candles are all bright vibrant colors, with beautiful labels, and special embossed lids with hibiscus flowers on them

Here are the candles I purchased:

20140304_111410[1]

Pineapple Palm Grass

A fresh tropical fragrance inspired by the beautiful pineapple fields and exotic green foliage of the Hawaiian Islands.

First Thoughts: This candle is a nice blend of sweet, fresh pineapple with the slightest hint of palm leaves. Honestly I think this may be a complete repackage of Pineapple Mango which was released with the spring candles. This candle definitely has a very summery, tropical feel to it.

Packaging: The label of this candle pictures what looks like yellow palm leaves with a lush green background. The wax is a nice vibrant yellow.

Wick: The wick on this candle is average length and medium sized.

20140304_111156[1]

Lanikai Coconut

Be transported by a blend of sweet coconut milk, seawater, and palm tree leaves inspired by Hawaii’s beautiful Lanikai Beach

First Thoughts: Even on cold throw, the scent of this candle is very weak. You can pick up on the sweet coconut milk but I don’t smell any seawater or palm leaves. I’m hoping the scent of this candle will be a little stronger once it’s burning.

Packaging: The label of this candle is really nice featuring some tropical pink flowers layer on top of a palm leaf. The wax is just a dull grey color.

Wick: The wick on this candle is somewhat thin and short.

20140304_111254[1]

Hawaiian Hibiscus

Experience an island getaway with the fragrance hibiscus, Hawaii’s native flower, combined with creamy coconut and jasmine notes

First Thoughts: Although the name of this candle would suggest it’s a floral candle, it has a very sweet quality to it. I don’t really pick up on coconut like the description suggests, but you can definitely smell the jasmine in this candle.

Packaging: The wax on this candle is a beautiful fuchsia pink that’s very vibrant. The label depicts a Hawaiian sunset with the silhouette of palm trees on the horizon.

Wick: The wick on this candle is an average sized medium wick.

20140304_111343[1]

Red Guava Lava

Hawaii’s spectacular lava landscape is celebrated in an explosively fresh and fruity blend of red guava and passion fruit

First Thoughts: This candle is predominately a guava scent, it’s very sweet but also a little sour. It’s very fruity and fresh! I’m excited to see how this one smells once it’s burning.

Packaging: The label on this candle is beautiful! Featuring bright vibrant flowers with touches of yellow, red, and orange. The wax is also a nice vibrant red.

Wick: The wick on this candle is an average medium sized wick. This is one of the first candles I burned and it has performed well so far!

20140304_111449[1]

Mango Dragon Fruit

Rare and refreshing dragon fruit is mixed with juicy island mango to create the ultimate tropical fruit blend.

First Thoughts: This candle is sweet and but also has a mouth puckering citrus quality to it. It’s definitely a fruity scent and I think it blends mango and dragon fruit really well.

Packaging: This candle is a beautiful vibrant orange color that matches the label nicely.

Wick: The wick on this candle is somewhat thin.

20140304_111357[2]

Rainforest Sugarcane

Venture into Hawaii’s rainforest with an intriguing mixture of fresh lime, raw sugarcane, and rare vanilla orchid.

First Thoughts: I can smell the lime in this candle, but vanilla orchid and sugarcane no way! I was really excited for this candle, but honestly it has a very musky quality to it.

Packaging: This candle is a beautiful emerald green with a waterfall pictured on the front.

Wick: The wick on this candle is thick and tall

20140304_111430[1]

Island Waters

Dive into an invigorating mix of water notes, lush green palm leaves and a hint
of fresh cut bamboo

First Thoughts: I LOVE this candle so far! It’s fresh and clean and you can really smell the fresh cut bamboo. I don’t really pick up on any green palm leaves, but this candle is a winner.

Packaging: This candle is a vibrant, bold teal blue with a beautiful beach scene on the label.

Wick: The wick on this candle is a medium sized wick.

Bath and Body Works Candle Review: Pink Lemonade Pound Cake

Hi Everyone!

20140223_192831[1]

Today I’ll be reviewing the mason jar candle in Pink Lemonade Pound Cake.

The description of this candle reads:

A delicious combination of two classic bakery treats includes notes of freshly
squeezed lemon, rich cake and ripe raspberries

20140217_150852[1]

First Thoughts: I’ve been excited for this candle since I first heard about it a few months ago. I was pretty disappointed when they didn’t release it in a 3 wick candle, but after smelling this in person I understand why. This candle is extremely weak, even on cold throw. You have to really stick you nose into this candle to get any scent at all. This candle is a weak lemon scent with a bakery undertone. I’m not blown away right now, but I’m hoping this candle will be better once its burning.

Packaging: This candle is extremely girly and frilly. Honestly, I’m loving the packaging on Spring St Sweet Shop collection, I think they really hit it out of the park.

Wick: The wick on this candle is somewhat thin.

20140223_192910[1]

Let’s get into this candle’s performance

Burn/Performance: B

Scent Accuracy: A

Scent Throw: D

Time of Usage: February through April

Guest Friendly: Yes

Worth Purchasing: No

20140223_192841[2]

In terms of performance this candle has been all over the place. When it first started burning, the flame was very small and I was worried the wick was going to extinguish. However, by 3rd time burning this candle, the flame became much larger and the wax pool finally pulled out evenly.

One thing I want to mention that makes me crazy is the wick placement on this candle. Umm Hello BBW? What’s up with that? This is the most horribly off center wick I think I’ve ever seen. I’m sure this contributed to the performance in the beginning, but I’m impressed that this candle was eventually able to start burning evenly.

The biggest bummer of this candle has to be the scent throw. This candle literally smells like NOTHING while it’s burning. I wanted to like this candle so badly, but I just can’t. The notes on this candle are so yummy but they don’t matter if you can’t smell them.

Overall, I think you should just skip this candle unless you really desperately want to try it. Because of the disappointing scent throw, it’s really just not worth the money. BUMMER

Hope you enjoyed this review!

I ❤ Candles Tag!

I recently came across this FUN tag on Youtube and I couldn’t resist doing it. This tag was created by Rebecca Heyliger so shout out to her for creating this great tag! Let’s get started!

1. What is your favorite brand of candles/where are your favorite places to buy candles?

Bath and Body Works was the first brand of candles I ever purchased and I have been in love with them ever since. Between the scent throw and variety of scents they offer, I feel like BBW offers the best candles out there. My second favorite would have to be Yankee Candle or Nest Fragrances, they both have amazing candles as well!

2. What candle would you not mind burning all year long?

Sweater Weather was my all time FAVORITE candle this past fall. The crisp, clean scent of this candle is just so beautiful, I could easily see myself burning this candle all year round.

DSCN0875

3. What candle do you regret buying?

I rarely regret buying a candle, but I have to say I absolutely hate Spiced Wreath from the winter candles. It’s so overwhelming and just smells like dirt mixed with cinnamon. I still can’t believe this call this candle “spiced wreath” considering it has no balsam or evergreen scent to it.

4. What type of candle scent is your favorite? Ex. food scents, sweet scents, fruity scents, spicy scents, etc.

I typically gravitate towards any candle that smells like food! A few of my favorites include French Baguette, Cider Donut, Pumpkin Cupcake, and Watermelon Lemonade.

PicMonkey Collage candles

5. What candle smells so good that you just want to eat it?

This is an easy one! Cinnamon Sugared Doughnut! It’s just so good. Every time I burn it, I WISH I could eat it!

DSC01710

6. If you could design your own candle what would it smell like?

If I could design a candle, my first option would be a Carrot Cake Candle. I know that they released a pumpkin carrot cake candle as a test scent this past fall, but I would LOVE a candle that smelled just like Carrot Cake.

The other candle I wish Bath and Body Works would release would be a Raspberry Cheesecake Candle.

7. If you could only burn one candle for the rest of your life, which candle would you choose?

If I could only burn one candle for the rest of my life it would be Cinnamon Sugared Doughnut. It’s my all time favorite candle ever!

8. What are your go to candle scents for each season? Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring.

Summer- Watermelon Lemonade, Lakeside, Summertime Smores, Caribbean Escape, Tiki Beach

Fall- Pumpkin Pecan Waffles, Pumpkin Cupcake, Sweater Weather, Autumn, Leaves

Winter- Frosted Cranberry, Fresh Balsam, Mint Chocolate, Snow Day, Spiced Apple Toddy

Spring- Market Peach, Snap Peas, Spring, Pomelo Grapefruit, First Bloom

 9. What season comes out with the best candles?

My favorite season for candles is definitely the Fall. The scents that they come out with tend to be bakery scents with lots of cinnamon, pumpkin, and cranberry. The Fall has the best candles!

10. What is your favorite new candle scent that has been released this year?

My favorite new candle would have to be Snap Peas. I really didn’t expect to love this candle as much as I do, but it smells exactly like fresh cut grass. It’s just so fresh and clean!

20140217_150837[1]

Hope you enjoyed this tag! If you do it, I’d love to see your response!
